Canadian wireless carriers connect their text messaging networks
Canada’s four national wireless communications providers announced April 2, 2002, that they have connected their text messaging networks.
Canadian cellular users can now send text messages via their carrier's short messaging service to any other subscriber on any of these four networks.
Before this announcement Canadian wireless users could only send SMS messages to people on their own network.
"This is the first time in North America that customers of four different wireless carriers will experience real-time, two-way text messaging," said a news release issued by the four companies.
